Biography: Deakin is known for photographing
writers, artists, fashion models and
film stars, as well as portraying his
bohemiam artist and poet friends centred
Londons Soho.


A friend and collaborator of the
painter Francis Bacon, several of
whose major works were based upon
portraits commissioned from Deakin.


Deakin made no concessions to his
subjects vanity, rejecting abject
admiration in the pursuit of truthful
depiction.


Deakin suffered from a lack of
commecial success and employment
stability, famously being sacked twice
from British Vogue .


After his dismissal he photographed
street scenes in Paris and Rome.


Deakins reputation was re-evaluated
following an exhibition at the Victoria and
Albert Museum in 1984.
