Biography: Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Lange
apprenticed herself to several New York
photography studios, including that of
the Arnold Genthe.


Lange later worked for the Farm Security
Administration of the New Deal in the
1930s, and produced one of the most
widely reproduced of all
photographs, "Migrant Mother, Nipomo,
California (1936)." Later she took images
in Ireland, Egypt, Palestine and here, in
the Far East.
