At the bidding of Napolean III, Jean-
Charles Langlois, a career soldier and
historical painter, and a young
photographer, Léon Eugène Méhédin,
arrived in the Crimea in mid November
1855 and worked together.
A full set of the images is held in the
Musee D'Orsay in Paris.
