Description:
‘Mark McGowan’s ‘Roll Over’ bypasses conventional modes of ‘Fine Art’ documentation by making the press its mediator. In testament to the effective nature of this tactic, some of the panel had heard of Mark, if not already seen him on the news, before the selection process. One of the most interesting aspects of this work is the artist’s ability to organise events that anticipate their own mediation in the press, while remaining open to misinterpretation or misrepresentation. I like the danger implicit in the ambiguous act of handing over control of the work to a third party.’
