‘Peirce’s paintings ask, what would a photorealist painting look like if the photograph was of something that you couldn’t recognize? The peculiar accumulations present make little sense as photograph, but at least you’d have a sense of a photographic reality. Peirce’s paintings remove that certainty and return to the idea of representational painting as fantasy.’
